standards

since "re-starting" the brand with our back to basics collection back in 2021, we knew that we wanted to keep making progress on solidifying our premium basics. we always imagined that our basics line would eventually become a standalone collection that would be separate to our seasonal releases. since this was supposed to represent everyday pieces, it didn't have to belong to a particular season, and instead, would be a constant and ongoing collection. so with that idea in mind, we started to chip away at development beginning in 2023.

since we already had a template for the specifications on our basics pieces, we began with figuring out what changes we wanted to make and what fabrics we thought would work best for everyday silhouettes. ultimately, we wanted to set a standard in terms of the quality, fit, design, and price for your standard pieces, hence the collection name, standards - it's a double meaning for the bar we're setting and the pieces it represents.

after going through countless fabric options and many rounds of sampling to make adjustments, we landed on what we felt was the perfect balance of comfort and style. maintaining the best quality possible was a given, but doing it at a noticeably lower price point was a huge challenge, especially for a smaller brand like ours.

while everyone across all industries were raising the price on their goods, we were trying to lower our prices to better serve our community. but with domestic production costs steadily rising year over year, we couldn't realistically continue to produce our basics in los angeles if we wanted to offer a much more competitive price. the only practical solution for us was to leverage our overseas factories to produce the goods. this meant that we had to do much higher quantities, but we were also able to hit the price targets that we were aiming for. it definitely was a risk as having excess inventory is never a good thing for a business, but we also saw it as an investment - our hope is that with much more favorable pricing without cutting any corners on quality, this will make the collection and pieces much more accessible to a wider audience.

we're starting the collection with the standards tees, hoodies, and sweatpants, but we'll be adding more silhouettes as time goes on. we're looking forward to continuously fleshing out this collection and we hope that these pieces become standards in your closet.
